Bear on the Lake Experience
Bear on the Lake Guesthouse is our property on the beautiful Bras D'Or Lakes of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. We're only 10 min from the start of the Cabot Trail and sitting on our own mountain overlooking the Bras d'Or Lakes.
We're surrounded by 50 acres of trees, visited by moose in the backyard, eagles overhead and hundreds of satisfied guests already in 2010. If you're looking for world class sailing, kayaking, whale watching, hiking and beaches, we're in the midst of it all!
We're the most central location on the Island for those visiting the Cabot Trail, Bras d'Or Lakes, Highlands National Park and Newfoundland by ferry. If arriving by car, we're only 320 km from Halifax, 275 km from Charlottetown, PEI and 385 km from Moncton, New Brunswick.
We're a Guesthouse, open to all ages and travelers. We promote and offer choice and a healthy mix of privacy and common living. If you're traveling alone, we offer a bed price or you may wish to book a private room. This means that most of the time, you're having an experience which is directly shared with other guests. There are communal games, computer, phone, kitchen, books, patio and bonfire pit to meet others, share a laugh, marshmallow at the fire or glass of wine overlooking the lake. We offer a fully provisioned guest kitchen/dining area where you can prepare your own meals, a guest laundry facility, a cozy common room with internet access and a library of books, games and movies. You'll also find secure storage and on-site parking.
Our accommodation is simple, but extremely comfortable. We provide linens and duvets. Rooms are 'retreat style' without telephone or television. All of our beds are "bunk style". Many of our rooms feature hardwood floors, freshly painted walls, new linens.
Our Advantage
Our overnight rates are inclusive of all applicable charges. And, if you're traveling on your own, you can choose to share a room with other travelers, instead of paying for an entire room yourself.
You can cook your own meals, thereby saving on the cost of dining out for every meal.
You're sharing a dynamic environment with international travelers from around the world and participating in activities and programs that connect you with others.
You came to Canada and Cape Breton Island to enjoy the outdoors, watch animals in their backyard and relax. At Bear on the Lake, we have resident bald eagles in the trees, family of fox, deer, bear and moose. You can't enjoy a campfire under the stars if you're staying at a hotel or motel!
